Tech Five: Google, Yahoo in talks with Flipboard
It appears Twitter isn't the only tech company with interest in news aggregator Flipboard. Let's look at the tech stocks to watch Wednesday:
Yahoo. Both the tech giant and rival Google have held talks with Flipboard on a potential acquisition, reports The Wall Street Journal. This comes one day after a report that Twitter was talking with the mobile app about a deal valuing the startup at roughly $1 billion.
Oracle. The software company earned a key supporter in its case against Google over the use of APIs. Fortune reports the White House is siding with Oracle on whether APIs -- interfaces that allow applications to communicate with each other -- can be copyrighted. The case focused on Java APIs used on Google's Android software.
Apple. As the company's Worldwide Developers Conferences inches closer, more rumors have surfaced on what the next version of iOS will include. According to 9to5Mac, the next iPhone will feature haptic feedback, while iOS 9 will bring a significant update to the stock keyboard.
Facebook. The social network's VR company Oculus confirmed it has acquired Surreal Vision, a 3D computer vision firm specializing in real-time 3D scene reconstruction.
Microsoft. The tech titan has worked out deals with tablet manufacturers Sony, LG and others to have Office apps pre-installed on Android devices. Microsoft already boasts similar arrangements with Dell and Samsung.
