Tech Five: Intel to acquire Altera for $16.7B
A big tech deal could officially get confirmed as soon as Monday. Let's take a look at the tech stocks to watch:
Intel. Shares of the chip maker are up slightly after confirming it will buy rival Altera for $16.7 billion, or roughly $54 a share. A statement from both companies says the deal is an all-cash transaction. Shares of Altera are up nearly 5%.
Microsoft. The tech giant announced it will launch the latest version of its Windows operating system on July 29. The software is free to PC owners running Windows 7 or 8, and will be available in 190 countries.
Nvidia. CEO Jen-Hsun Huang says the company's cloud computing revenue will hit the $1 billion mark within two to three years, reports CNBC. The comments were made ahead of the Computex trade show in Taiwan.
Amazon. In an attempt to attract more families, the online retailer is offering a Kindle package aimed at kids. TechCrunch reports the Kindle for Kids bundle includes a Kindle e-reader, cover and warranty for $99.
Facebook. The social network says it will allow users to add OpenPGP public keys to profiles used to send encrypted emails. Users can create their own key under settings.
