Report: FTC reviewing Apple's streaming music rules
The Federal Trade Commission is reportedly looking into whether rules set by Apple for rival streaming music services may violate antitrust laws.
According to Reuters, Apple takes a 30% share of any purchases made within Apple apps, which includes subscriptions to streaming music services. Claims made to the FTC say Apple's cut could force them to take a hit on profits or charge more on the App Store.
Citing "three industry sources," the report says the FTC is exploring Apple's treatment of streaming music services but has yet to start an official investigation.
Complaints over Apple's treatment of streaming music services were brought to light after the tech giant launched its own competitor to the market last month: Apple Music. The service starts at $9.99 a month with a family option for $14.99.
Companies are also targeting App Store restrictions that prevent them from marketing or advertising their service, says the report.
