Tech Five: Amazon to release earnings
Investors have been buzzing about Amazon since the e-commerce giant hit its intraday high of $493.20 Monday. Fresh of the excitement of Prime Day (Amazon's version of Black Friday), the company plans to announce its second quarter earnings after the bell Thursday.
Let's take a look at the five tech stocks to watch Thursday:
Amazon (AMZN): This has been a good week for Amazon. Shares have been hovering near the record high -- which is just below $500. Prime Day sales brought the company a lot of publicity last week, however sales made that day will affect third-quarter results rather than the second-quarter results out after the bell Thursday. Company shares were slightly up during pre-market trading.
Comcast (CMCSA): Comcast posted earnings early Thursday morning, delivering strong results to investors. The company reported stronger-than-expected quarterly revenues, and earnings that met analysts' predictions, according to CNBC. Shares were slightly up during pre-market trading Thursday.
Apple (AAPL): Shares of Apple were still down during pre-market trading after the stock took a nose dive earlier this week. Apple reported mixed third quarter earnings. Although the company reported that it sold 47.5 million iPhones in the last quarter, Tuesday's earnings results still did not seem to wow investors.
Microsoft (MSFT): Microsoft is gearing up to release its free upgrade of Windows 10 next week, but the stock still remains down following its quarterly earnings report. The company ended its fiscal year Tuesday with earnings and revenue that topped analyst expectations, but took a hit from the global slowdown of PC sales. Company shares were down nearly 4% during pre-market trading.
Yahoo (YHOO): Yahoo shares also took a dip earlier this week after announcing its second quarter results. The company surpassed analyst revenue expectations, but missed forecasts for earnings. Company shares were down more than 1% in pre-market trading.
