Weekend listening: Win10, Google, secure laptop?
VENICE BEACH, Calif. — Our annual weekend recap of the week's podcasts starts looks at a new operating system from Microsoft you might have heard of--Windows 10, and dives into great products from Google and one very strange new offering from Yahoo.
So let's begin there, with Yahoo's new Livetext silent video app. It puzzled the members of our TalkingTech Roundtable podcast, as we tried to figure out why anyone would want to connect with someone for a live video chat--even if they couldn't hear the words.
Our Roundtable podcast opened with a preview of Windows 10 on a new Toshiba laptop, and jumped into Apple's new El Capitan operating system, coming in the fall, and a new iPhone, via 9to5Mac blogger Mark Gurman.
Google made lots of folks happy this week when it said it would no longer require folks to use their Google + profiles to connect on YouTube. In other words--that long strong arm to be a member of Google's failed social network experiment clearly failed. But two great products live on from Google + - Hangouts and Photos.
After losing my laptop temporarily at an airport, I finally got why having a password lock on my computer was so vital. I explain.
Finally--we introduce you to a new tech startup called MoveLoot, which promises to make the act of buying and selling furniture a lot easier.
And lastly, fFolks, have you ever wanted to attend a taping of our #TalkingTech Roundtable podcast?
Now you have the opportunity. On August 20th, Paste BN is throwing a party and you're invited to attend. We have room for 50 folks to attend a live taping of the show, and a party afterwards. Tickets are going fast--so if you'd like to attend, sign up soon. https://tickets.usatoday.com/e/talkingtech
