CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. — Millions of people will rush out at the end of the month to nab that new iPhone when Apple releases it.

Jeff Caldwell is one of them.

The general manager of the Portland Spirit sternwheeler, he always buys a new iPhone every year, re-selling last year's model to have the latest and greatest.

On a recent trip to the Columbia Gorge area of Oregon, we met up with Caldwell and started talking iPhones. Apple is expected to introduce new iPhones Wednesday at a press event in San Francisco, and have them in stores about a week or two after.

"There's always something new, whether it's a better camera, faster processor, always something that says I've got to have this," says Caldwell.

What he won't do is stand on the long line outside an Apple Store.

"I wasted five hours at least once," he says. "Waiting up late and clicking a few times online and having it show up at my front door on launch day was much more rewarding and much more efficient."

Apple has sold more than 750 million iPhones since 2007 and the category now counts for two-thirds of the company's profits.
