Facebook activates Safety Check for Chile earthquake

Facebook activated its Safety Check feature to help people in Chile tell friends and family they're safe following an 8.3-magnitude earthquake.

The feature allows a user to mark themselves as safe when a disaster or crisis hits.

The Safety Check was introduced last year and was used in April when an earthquake struck Nepal.

"Safety Check is our way of helping our community during natural disasters and gives you an easy and simple way to say you’re safe and check on all your friends and family in one place," said Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg last year when the feature was introduced.
