Facebook's next button: the solidarity? Tech buzz this week

SAN FRANCISCO — If Facebook rolls out its alternative to the iconic 'like' button, what would it be? Here's an idea: a solidarity button.

Paste BN's San Francisco tech team reviews the week in tech, including Mark Zuckerberg's suggestion Facebook is working on something akin to a 'dislike' button, and how #Istandwithahmed resonated with big tech companies.

Also this week: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who vowed last year to change the way the company hired and retained women, told a Salesforce conference that thinking about the company's culture wakes him up at night. The same day, Microsoft was sued by an ex-employee who alleged a system of discriminating against women in technical roles. And the president of China, whose relationship with big tech companies has been frayed by piracy and security fears, prepares for a West Coast trip.

Julius Marchwicki, a Shanghai-based director of Asia-Pacific connected vehicle and services for Ford Motor Co., joins the podcast to talk about these issues and why Ford is holding a hackathon in San Francisco.

Nisha Dua, a principal with BBG Ventures and creator of #builtbygirls, discusses how companies can go beyond unconscious bias training, and why teaching teenage girls to think like venture capitalists spells big changes in the next generation of hot tech start-ups.
