The perils of lionizing Steve Jobs as a CEO

SAN FRANCISCO – Many CEOs emulate Steve Jobs as a founder who returned to his company to lead it to overwhelming success.

But are his qualities — brilliant, controlling, brusque — the path for most CEOs to follow? And what does that mean for Twitter, where co-founder Jack Dorsey is serving as interim CEO, or ex-HP CEO Carly Fiorina?

This week's Tech Deep Dive podcast took this issues on, plus the visits of Chinese and Indian state leaders to tech hubs, and how Twitter could become profitable.

Around the conference table were Ajay Arora, CEO and co-founder of Vera, a cyber security firm based in Palo Alto; Dennis Yang, CEO of Udemy, a San Francisco-based online education marketplace; and Jonathan Speed, managing director of business development for STEMCompass, a platform that connects students and recent graduates with science and technology jobs.

They were joined by Jon Swartz, San Francisco bureau chief, editor and host Laura Mandaro and Elizabeth Weise, computer security reporter.

The discussion started on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s two-day  visit to Seattle and environs. Whether China can out-entrepreneur the United States was debated, with side-trips to the educational systems of both countries, and what's really standing in the way of becoming an entrepreneur for many students.

And yes, the group discusses the burning question of the week: who's already bought Apple’s new iPhone 6S (rose gold or no?).
