LOS ANGELES - Andrew Jarecki has his follow-up project to the Jinx, his Emmy-award winning documentary.

It’s not a movie or TV project, but a smartphone app for video editing--KnowMe.

The idea is that while folks love to shoot smartphone video, they rarely take the time to edit them. So Jarecki set out to create an app that’s way easier.

“I didn’t think there was an easy way for someone to communicate in the world of video,” says Jarecki, who is also known as the creator of the Moviefone app.

His inspiration for the app comes from the many interviews he conducted for the making of the Jinx documentary.

“I realized people have a basic human need to tell their stories,” he says.

KnowMe, available for Apple devices at first, lets you shoot images on your phone, as well as add images and video from your camera roll to augment the production. You can also do voiceovers from the smartphone microphone.

While there are many smartphone video editing apps, most notably Apple’s iMovie, “nothing had been designed to really allow you to take advantage of the capabilities of the phone,” Jarecki says.

The app is free and available today and counts a big-time celebrity as an investor--Star Wars: The Force Returns director J.J. Abrams.
