Google doodle celebrates NASA's Juno probe reaching Jupiter orbit

SAN FRANCISCO – Google celebrated in appropriately geeky style as NASA's Juno spacecraft entered Jupiter's orbit Monday night.

The image for Google's main search page was updated Monday to feature PacMan-era figures of NASA engineers jumping up and down with joy as the spacecraft successfully entered into orbit around the gas giant after a five-year, 1.8 billion mile journey.

The doodle went up shortly after NASA engineers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. received confirmation the craft had been captured by Jupiter's gravity.

The probe's mission is to dive  beneath Jupiter’s intense radiation belts so it can study the solar system's largest planet.

Google frequently updates the image on its main page, called the Google doodle, to celebrate important events and individuals.
