Hey, there listeners. It's Brett Molina. Welcome back to Talking Tech. Guess what? We have another spinoff of Wordle as if we didn't have 20 of these. This one's actually pretty cool though. I read about this in a story that you can read on tech.USAtoday.com. It's called Heardle. What makes it really cool is it's a musically-based version of Wordle. So, if you remember Wordle, you know you have a five-letter word, you got to take six tries to guess it, and the colors of the letters change to let you know how close you are and it works your way down. Heardle is different because, I don't know if you remember the game show Name That Tune, it's kind of like that, where you hear one second of a song and you have to try to figure out what the song is.

The game itself has its own list of a bunch of different songs that you can choose from. And you have to guess what it is. So, if you can guess it in one second, that's great. If not, you'll play the next segment, which is another second. So, then you'll hear two seconds of the song and it works its way down. The one I played today was about a 15, 16-second clip in total if you got all the way to the end. But you basically have six attempts to try to guess what this song is. And like I said, it feels like Name That Tune. I remember it back in the day where it was like, I can guess the song in four notes or whatever. It's kind of like that, where you get a couple of seconds of the song and you have to try to figure out what it is.

And it's got all the same elements and cool things that Wordle has. You'll get a breakdown of how you did. The interesting thing about Heardle too is you can actually skip a guess if you're just stumped, because some of these are really tough, especially if you don't know the song and you only get one second of it. You can skip if you don't have a really good guess and move to the next thing until you get to the answer you want. So, it's really fun. I highly recommend it. It's a very cool different twist on Wordle, which again, we can't seem to stop playing apparently. Again, I've mentioned this, I think in previous podcasts, but it's gotten to the point where people now have a routine of the five or six different Wordle and Wordle variant games that they play between the main Wordle.

There's the version where you play two puzzles at once. There's Quordle, which is four-word puzzles at the same time that you have to solve. I've been a big fan of Worldle which is a geography-based version. It's also proof that I'm really bad at geography and I need to study maps more, but there's a lot of really cool versions of this and it's fun seeing all of these different things come together. And it's great seeing people who have basically five or six versions of this game and they're playing it every morning, it's become part of their routine. So, here's another one that might be for your routine, Heardle. Again, I've only tried it out briefly, so I don't know a ton about it, but it looks really cool. It's a lot of fun. Again, if you just love Wordle and can't get enough of it, it's another great option.
