Got an Amazon return? You can soon drop them off at Staples stores

Consumers will have one more option for shipping off their Amazon returns: a visit to Staples.

The tech giant announced Wednesday it will collaborate with Staples to allow shoppers to drop off returns without the need to include a label or box to all Staples stores in the U.S. by the end of July.

The partnership with Staples means Amazon will offer more than 8,000 locations to drop off returns in the U.S., the online retailer said in a statement.

"Our goal is to make buying online as easy as possible, and we know that some items don’t always work out as planned, which is why we work hard to continue to raise the bar in offering a hassle-free returns experience to our customers," Gopal Pillai, vice president of Worldwide Returns & Recommerce at Amazon, said in a statement.

How do Amazon returns work?

Consumers visit Amazon's Return Center to generate a QR code, which they then present along with the returned item to the appropriate dropoff location. In most cases, the item is packed and shipped at no extra cost. Customers also don't need to bring a box or label.

Does Kohl's still do Amazon returns?

In 2019, Amazon announced a similar partnership with brick-and-mortar chain Kohl's where Amazon customers could drop off returns at a Kohl's store. Kohl's remains among the locations where customers can drop off Amazon returns.

Customers can also drop off returns at physical Amazon stores, Whole Foods - which is owned by Amazon - and UPS stores.

Will Amazon start charging for returns?

In April, Amazon confirmed to Paste BN it would start charging a fee on some returns made at UPS locations. Customers may pay an extra $1 fee if they make a return to a UPS Store when a free alternative is closer to the delivery address.
