Talking Tech: Are students enthused about new iPhone?

- New iPhones on sale Friday at 8 a.m.
- iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C come in new colors
- Over 600 million Apple mobile devices in use
BOZEMAN, Mont. — New iPhones are being unleashed on Friday, and Apple hopes students — and others — will be so jazzed by the new features they'll rush the doors to upgrade to the iPhone 5s and 5c as they have with past iPhone releases. So how's it playing on campus?
Talking Tech stopped by Montana State University while on vacation in Big Sky country recently to find out. The iPhone 5s ($199 with a two year contract) sports a better processor, improved camera and fingerprint technology that replaces the need for pass codes, while the less expensive 5c ($99, with a two-year contract) is basically last year's iPhone 5 with a splash of colors.
—"I cannot wait to pre-order it," says Mary Elizabeth Breslin. "My iPhone4 is so slow."
— Denise Dorants craves the fingerprint tech, a new security feature for unlocking the phone. "No one else can pretty much use your phone ever. Which is nice. Especially if you lose your phone."
— Trenna Thelen is enthusiastic about the improved 8-megapixel camera, which promises to perform better in low light. "I think these cameras are awesome. I don't know how they could make it better."
— Alex Milne isn't impressed. Apple "just changed the colors," he says, and not much else. The company just "put more sprinkles on the cupcake."
— Schuyler Kinneman is impressed, but can't afford the upgrade. "I get all I need with this," he says, pointing to last year's model. "I get weather, football scores, traffic alerts. I can't afford to go and buy a new phone every time something cool comes out."
