Nick Cannon: who got the tech in split with Mariah Carey?

LOS ANGELES — Actor/musician and TV judge Nick Cannon says it: he's a major tech nut.

"Whatever it is, when something really cool comes out, I want at least five or six of them" — enough to be accessible at his multiple homes, says Cannon, best known for his voting on NBC's America's Got Talent.

Which begs the question—when it came to dividing up tech with his ex Mariah Carey on the heels of their recent high profile split-up, who got what?

"There's enough for everybody," he says.

"Anything that's cool and new, I want them. I'm the techie of the family, and you've got to buy a couple of everything, so you don't have to split anything."

The last really cool tech item he purchased: multiple Sonos speakers, which stream wireless music into many different rooms. "You need a lot of them," he says.

Speaking of bulk, Cannon is out to break a world record Tuesday.

He plans to shoot at least 600 consecutive selfies, which would put him at the top of a Guinness Book of World Records category, in a contest sponsored by Samsung to tout the new NX30 camera. (#DitchtheDSLR.) Sure, he happily admits that he's being handsomely paid by the South Korean giant to tout its cameras, and yes, he drops mentions of Galaxy phones and OLED curved TVs in his interview, but give him a little credit—he's also having fun doing it.

"What's cooler than tech?" he asks, as he demonstrates his selfie skills on a Samsung Galaxy smartphone (not so good — blurry) and with the NX30 (sharper — helped by the wider angle lens.)

"I don't take good smartphone selfies," he says.
