Drool-worthy New 5K iMacs

SAN FRANCISCO: Photographers, video editors, architects and tech start-up worker bees may be the only ones truly salivating over Apple's new iMac.
But when it comes to computers that push the boundaries, trust me, all of you will ooh and aah when you see this beauty.
You may balk at the $2,499 entry price. In fact you probably will. But in our hands-on glimpse at the coolest computer in years, there's no denying--this display screen is so crisp and sharp.
The new iMac is touted as the highest-resolution computer ever, one notch above 4K, with "5K" resolution.
Apple says the computer, in stores now, has 4 times the number of pixels as the standard iMac, with 5120‑by‑2880 resolution.
The new iMac comes with a 3.5 GHZ quad-core processor--(recent Macs had 2.0 GHZ processors) and comes with a 1 terabyte "fusion" hard drive--500 GB solid state and 500 GB traditional drive.
I got a sneak peak at the new iMac at Apple's press event Thursday along with fellow Paste BN tech reporters Ed Baig and Elizabeth Weise, so this is just a quick first impression.
Both Baig and I will review the new iMac shortly as well, so stick with tech.usatoday.com for the latest updates.
