Telltale developing episodic 'Minecraft' game

Episodic game creators Telltale Games unveiled an interesting partner for its next series: Minecraft.

Mojang, the team behind Minecraft, confirmed it is collaborating with Telltale on Minecraft: Story Mode, a narrative-driven game based on the hit franchise that's essentially the digital equivalent of Legos.

The first episode will launch in 2015 for PC, Mac, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, iOS and Android devices. Story will be a standalone game separate from the primary Minecraft experience.

Story Mode represents an interesting twist for Minecraft, which focuses primarily on players building anything then can imagine. The game has been downloaded more than 100 million times. In September, Microsoft announced its acquisition of Minecraft for $2.5 billion.

The collaboration caps a busy year for Telltale, having wrapped the second season of its hit series The Walking Dead, and launched two more series: Tales from the Borderlands and an episodic series based on the HBO TV series Game of Thrones.
