Sony's cloud video game service coming to Samsung TVs
Sony is bringing its cloud-based PlayStation Now video game streaming service to Samsung televisions.
Currently in beta testing on Sony Bravia TVs, as well as PlayStation video game systems (the PlayStation 4, PS3 and PS Vita), PlayStation Now will be available on select Samsung Smart TVs in the first half of 2015.
Back in 2012, Sony acquired cloud gaming service Gaikai as part of its plan to establish an online gaming service. Announced at last year's Consumer Electronics Show, PlayStation Now offers more than 200 PlayStation 3 games that can be streamed over the Net. The service will be demonstrated on Samsung TVs at this year's CES, which runs Jan. 6-9, 2015.
"PlayStation Now provides a new dimension to Samsung Smart TVs that consumers have been looking for – blockbuster PS3 games accessed through an intuitive interface that makes it easy to discover and play great gaming experiences," said Samsung Electronics vice president Youngchan Kim in a statement.
On Samsung TVs, the PlayStation Now service will reside as an app on Samsung's Smart Hub. Games can be played with a Dualshock 4 controller, sold separately. Among the games available: Mirror's Edge, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, God of War: Ascension, Killzone 3, NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, Dead or Alive 5. Prices start at $1.99.
