Video: 'Final Fantasy VII Remake' is real
LOS ANGELES -- One of the most beloved role-playing games is being remade, with key designers behind the original leading developing it.
During Sony's E3 press event, Square Enix confirmed Final Fantasy VII Remake, a "full remake" of the 1997 role-playing classic. The game's director, Tetsuya Nomura, reprises the same role on the remake, as does the original game's producer -- Yoshinori Kitase -- and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.
The original title sold more than 11 million copies and has been discussed as one of the greatest role-playing video games of all time.
It was one of three major surprises Sony announced during its E3 press conference. At the top of the show, Sony unveiled new game play of The Last Guardian, the adventure from the creator of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus that's been long in development. Also, Sony revealed a sequel to the classic series Shenmue. A Kickstarter is available to help fund Shenmue 3. The project already hit its goal of $2 million, reaching $2.3 million as of this morning.
