Blizzard unveils new 'Hearthstone' expansion
Blizzard Entertainment unveiled a new expansion for its popular card game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft that will launch next month.
The Grand Tournament will include 132 additional cards and introduce a new ability called Inspire, which triggers a special ability when the player uses their Hero's power. For example, it could boost a character's attack power.
Cards from The Grand Tournament will be available in packs or as prizes in Hearthstone's Arena Mode, just like previous expansions. However, starting next week, players can spend $49.99 to pre-purchase a 50-pack bundle of cards from the new expansion.
This is the second significant expansion for Hearthstone since its 2014 launch. The first expansion, Goblins vs. Gnomes, arrived last December.
Hearthstone is a card-based strategy game where players choose a Hero and create decks featuring a combination of spells and minions. The free-to-play game has been a huge hit for Blizzard since its launch. As of May, the game boasts 30 million players.
The Grand Tournament will be available for PCs, and smartphones and tablets running Android or iOS.
