Michigan 'unmistakable' in amazing photo from space

From up above and in the middle of the night, the Mitten state looks pretty amazing.

NASA astronaut Scott Kelly tweeted a photo Monday morning of the Great Lakes region from about 250 miles up -- aboard the International Space Station.

Kelly, 51, has been aboard the International Space Station since March 2015 and had recently broken a record for most days spent in space. He's expected to accumulate a total of 522 days as part of a study to determine what impact a year in space can have on a person.

"Records are meant to be broken," Kelly said.
