#OptOutside on Black Friday: Lyft and REI providing free rides in these 10 cities

Lyft and REI are teaming up to provide people an alternative to the madness of Black Friday sales. 

With the use of a promo code, people can get $10 off a Lyft ride to major parks in in 12 cities across the country. The campaign is part of the #OptOutside movement, which REI launched in 2015 when it shut its door on Black Friday and gave employees a paid day off to hit the trails, slopes or rivers. People who participate are encouraged to share their experiences with the hashtag #OptOutside, which will pull content onto REI's Opt Outside search tool. 

Since then, many companies and people across the country have joined the #OptOutside on Black Friday movement. 

The US Department of the Interior tweeted Thursday encouraging people to "#OptOutside for fun with friends and family." 

Ben Steele, REI Chief Creative Officer, said it was an obvious move to partner with Lyft to encourage more people to #OptOutside. 

“REI and Lyft share a passion for building happy, healthy communities. For us that means getting more people outside with their friends and loved ones,” Steele said in a statement. 

The cities included in the campaign are Portland, San Francisco, Denver, Salt Lake City, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Phoenix, San Diego and Tucson. You can find more information on the participating parks and promo codes here.
