SAN FRANCISCO - Twitter says it will release an earnings letter rather than having chief executive Jack Dorsey and other executives make prepared remarks about the company's performance on the quarterly earnings call next week.

The letter will replace the press release and subsequent commentary during the earnings call from senior management. Instead executives will take questions from analysts during the call and Periscope broadcast, Twitter said.

The San Francisco company reports fourth-quarter earnings on Feb. 10.

Other tech companies such as Netflix have adopted the practice.

"We’re changing things up based on feedback we’ve received from the investment community," Twitter said in an emailed statement. "We hope this new format will help give shareholders a clearer view of our performance and outlook in an easier-to-digest manner, while also making the most of our time on the call."
