Tech Five: Facebook kicks off f8 conference
Prepare to hear a lot of news Tuesday on Facebook, as the social networking titan launches its f8 developers conference in San Francisco.
Let's look at tech stocks to watch:
Facebook. Get familiar with the word "chatbot." The social network will likely have plenty to say about it during its f8 keynote address Tuesday. This comes off the heels of Microsoft's experiments with chatbots on Twitter. Facebook is also expected to share more updates on its Messenger platform.
Overstock.com. The online retailer named Mitch Edwards its acting CEO, after founder Patrick Byrne announced he was taking indefinite medical leave. Edwards had served as Overstock's general counsel and senior vice president.
Juniper Networks. Shares sunk nearly 9% in morning trading after the networking company revealed its preliminary first quarter results would fall under company guidance. Juniper forecasts revenue as high as $1.1 billion. Company guidance called for revenue in the range of $1.15 billion to $1.19 billion.
Alibaba. The company acquired a controlling stake in e-commerce platform Lazada for roughly $1 billion. Lazada operates in several southeast Asian countries including Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.
Amazon. Images of the company's next Kindle e-reader have reportedly leaked. According to TechCrunch, the Kindle Oasis is 27% lighter than the Voyage model and 36% lighter than the Paperwhite.
