Tech Five: BlackBerry to stop making Classic phone
BlackBerry bids farewell to one of its smartphones, while Comcast and Netflix forge a rare partnership.
Let's look at tech stocks to watch Wednesday:
BlackBerry. The smartphone maker says it will no longer produce the BlackBerry Classic, which boasts the company's signature design and keyboard. BlackBerry has transitioned from making devices powered by its BlackBerry 10 operating system to models running Google's Android.
Netflix. The streaming giant is working with Comcast to bring the service to the cable company's X1 platform. Both companies have had a frayed relationship, with Netflix CEO Reed Hastings criticizing Comcast for data caps and opposing plans to merge with Time Warner.
Microsoft. The tech giant will break out Skype Meetings as a standalone option. Users will be able to set up meetings with up to 10 people for the first 60 days, and will drop to 3 people after the 60-day period.
Twitter. The social media service tapped Facebook's former chief technology officer for the company's board of directors. Bret Taylor also founded the business software company Quip.
Apple. Will we finally say goodbye to the 16 GB iPhone? The Wall Street Journal reports the next iPhone will launch this fall with the 32 GB model as the entry level option for consumers.
