Facebook wants to celebrate your birthday with a video

In case a flurry of greetings on your News Feed weren't enough, Facebook wants to celebrate your birthday with a video.

The social network announced Thursday it's rolling out birthday videos this week, compiling personal messages users receive from friends and tagged photos. The videos roll out this week.

The 45-second videos start with a special birthday cake that opens up to reveal greetings from Facebook friends. Users will be able to edit any photos or messages appearing in the videos, and will have the option to share them with friends on their News Feed.

Facebook hosts similar videos for users who reach an anniversary with a friend on the social media service.

The feature coincides with broader plans to become a "video first" social network. The company is also investing heavily in Facebook Live, a video service where users can stream live footage directly from their smartphones.
