From a TV that sticks to the wall with giant suction cups to stunning new sets that rival museum-quality artwork, there’s no shortage of televisions to talk about at this CES. But LG’s StanbyMe 2 is the one I want to smuggle home in my suitcase right this second.

When LG brought us in for an early first hands-on with their latest sets at this year’s CES show in Las Vegas, at first I had no idea what I was looking at. Is it a giant tablet? Maybe a weird all-in-one PC? A real-life pop-up ad?

Alas, no. In fact, it’s half TV and half mobile device, with a responsive touchscreen and a bunch of really cool features that make it a somewhat sneaky set-top standout.

It’s a display for whatever streaming services you want to assign to it, and it doesn’t have to be tethered to the wall. A built-in battery gives it around four hours of freedom from outlets, providing a surprising amount of mobility. I mean, who wants to be locked down to the couch or single room, when you can just wheel this anywhere on the included stand?

Bathtub bingewatching? Yes please. Movie night on the beach? Count me in, but keep sand away from the ports, thanks so much.

Overall, the perfectly named StanbyMe 2 is so much more flexible than a traditional TV with its detachable 27-inch QHD touch screen and included mobile stand.

And there are plenty of AI features, too, of course, including a board game where you sketch on the screen and a sort of all-in-one productivity “hub” with reminders, scheduled tasks, and whatever else might be going on in your busy life.

Pricing and launch date remain elusive, but it sure is cool.
