Amazon launches premium product line exclusive to Prime
Amazon introduced a premium line of products titled Elements, part of a push by the online retailing giant to add value to its Prime subscription service.
The first products available through Amazon Elements: diapers and baby wipes.
Elements features products with "transparent origins" according to a statement released by the company Thursday. Products will include information on when and where items were made, where materials came from and why those materials were chosen.
"The two things customers told us they want are premium products that meet their high standards, and access to information so they can make informed decisions," says Sunny Jain, Amazon's vice president of their Consumables division. "Amazon Elements offers both."
Elements products are available only to members of Amazon Prime, a $99-a-year subscription that grants free shipping on most products as well as access to Amazon's streaming video and music services. Amazon did not say what other products might be available through this program beyond diapers and baby wipes.
