Deck the halls with customizable, smart Christmas lights: Video tutorial

Lights are a big part of the holidays. They’re inside and outside, adorning trees, mantles, Menorahs, mailboxes, sweaters and more.
When it comes to lights, there are a lot of options to can choose from to brighten up your holiday season. Shelves are lined with lights in different shades of white, colors, large bulbs, small bulbs and some that can be customized using your smartphone and even react to music.
However you choose to decorate your space, there are some minor adjustments you can make to amp up your spectacular display.

App-controlled lights can step up any holiday display. They can be used in place of your annual staples or as a nice addition to your already perfected setup. Plus, many of them can be used inside or outside.
Many of them come with preset patterns that the lights can run through, such as a candy cane pattern, or the ability to create your own. Some brands can even let you customize it down to the individual bulb!
And if you really want to take it up a notch, see if there are any add-ons they offer. Some have additional hardware that can connect to the lights and have them dance along to music or noise or can connect to your TV and enhance your movie-watching or gaming experience.
Another big upside with lights that connect to an app is the ability to schedule them to turn on and off automatically, whether you’re at home, at a holiday party or out delivering homemade cookies.
Here’s my favorite part: Since the design and color possibilities are seemingly endless, you can keep the lights up all year round and change the colors to fit the season or holiday.

Timers for lights
Plugging in and unplugging all the lights every day can be a hassle, especially if you have to squeeze your arm into an awkward spot.
Outlet timers are a very popular option this time of year. You can also simplify things further by using a remote.

There are many different options for remotes that work for this, and you can even find some remotes that can control multiple bases, eliminating the need for a different remote for every outlet. As you’re setting up your decor, plug the lights into the base and plug the base into the wall.
When it comes to outside lights and displays, let the sun do the heavy lifting and opt for solar-powered lights.
