Sometimes, the best gadgets are the ones that are reinvented by taking it up a notch. The art of building a better mousetrap can be as simple as putting calculators on our smartphones or as complex as adaptive cruise control on our cars.

There are also some simple swaps and additions you can integrate into your home that might not be strictly necessary but which can quickly become something you don’t know how you lived without. Keep reading for four simple gadgets that can make a significant impact on your everyday life.

Watch this video to see how easy it is to set the vibe in any room with a rechargeable light bulb.

Wireless light bulb

Rechargeable light bulbs are an easy alternative to traditional bulbs. Plus, they allow you some additional freedoms that don’t come with traditional bulbs.

They don’t require electricity, meaning your lamp doesn’t need to be plugged in or anywhere near an outlet. Some of these wireless bulbs magnetically attach to a base that can screw into a lightsocket like a traditional bulb, giving you the freedom to use it in the lamp or setting it where you need it. Plus, the portability makes it easy to charge.

They also have a lot of color options built in. You can set the bulb to different shades of white, red, blue or green. Alternatively, you can set it to cycle through the colors. The lights may also come with a remote that allows you even more freedom, like adjusting the brightness or setting a timer to automatically turn off.

Auto curtain opener

Automatic curtain openers are the easiest way to open and close your curtains without doing anything. The rechargeable, roller devices attach to your curtain rod and handle the menial task of curtain control, eliminating the need to get out of your comfortable bed or off your cozy couch when you forget to close them.

You can use the app to open or close them on demand, create an automatic schedule or pair it with your smart speaker. A set schedule can make for a nice and potentially bright way to wake up in the morning, and it can even become a security device, making it look like your home is occupied if you’re out of town.

They also work manually by giving your curtains a little tug, triggering them to get rolling.

Smart planter

If you have plants, you’ve likely wondered, ‘Are they getting enough sun? Are they getting enough water? Are they happy?’ That’s where a smart planter can come in handy.

Watch this video to see how a smart planter can help your houseplants.

It can monitor light conditions, water levels, humidity and temperature, telling you if it’s adequate for that plant. This information is accessible on the face of the planter, and you can find even more information in the app.

Window cleaning robot

Floors have autonomous vacuums and moppers, so why shouldn’t windows?

Sure, some window cleaning jobs might be faster by hand, but a window cleaning robot would be especially useful for large or hard-to-reach windows inside or outside of your home.

Watch this video to see how a robot can clean your windows.

The gadget suctions to your surface and then scoots its way across the surface. It can dust or give a deeper cleaner if you put cleaner on one of the robot’s scrubbers. A remote control makes it easy to get it going, pause it or change its direction.
