The third season of FX’s hit vampire sitcom What We Do in the Shadows kicks off on September 2, and the show’s simply too funny to miss.

The first season saw the arrival of an ancient, bloodthirsty baron who wanted to try a slice of pizza, star-crossed lovers reunited after centuries apart, and Nandor the Relentless doing battle with the Staten Island City Council. In season two, memorable guest stars like Mark Hamill, Haley Joel Osment, and Craig Robinson crashed the party, fleshing out the show’s world and setting the stage for a big season-finale bloodbath.

Season three will air weekly on FX beginning on Thursday, September 2, with each episode streaming on Hulu the very next day.

How much is Hulu?

How much is a Hulu subscription? That depends. For better or for worse, you have at least five different options in terms of pricing and content.

You can get the ad-supported, standalone version of Hulu for just $5.99 per month; the ad-free tier of the service costs $11.99 a month. Each of these includes a free 30-day trial, so you can get a good sense of whether the service is right for you without any risk.

You can get access to Hulu as part of the special Disney Bundle, as well, which includes the Disney+ and ESPN+ streaming libraries. The Disney Bundle costs either $13.99 a month or $19.99 a month, depending on whether you want ads.

Hulu also offers a premium subscription that includes live TV, which costs $64.99 monthly after a seven-day trial.

What is ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ about?

Some fun cameos notwithstanding, the FX show is largely unrelated to the 2014 mockumentary film of the same name.

While the original What We Do in the Shadows was a collaboration between director Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) and Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), the series it inspired is more Clement’s brainchild—along with some other brilliant writers, including showrunner Paul Simms, Duncan Sarkies, and Stefani Robinson.

The show stars Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, Kayvan Novak, and Mark Proksch as a found family of misfit vampires, plus Harvey Guillén as their familiar. Each of them has their own unique abilities, neuroses, and long, dark past. The cast is pure comic alchemy, delivering one of the funniest first seasons in sitcom history.

If you’re worried about vampires not being your thing, or the movie being better, I dare you to watch just the first episode. You’ll go straight into the second, and once you’ve seen “City Council,” well—welcome to the Staten Island underworld.
