While it's hard to believe November is already here and that there are only two months left of 2020, as it often feels like it is still March, but alas we have made it. Though we're living in unprecedented times, there are still some things to look forward to like Thanksgiving and the end of the fall season. It's also a good time to think of all the products you'll need this month, in case they sell out.

Below are 10 items you should buy in November based on trending product searches and top-tested essentials you'll need for the month like generators in case of a power outage, tools for Thanksgiving dinner, and a patio heater to keep you warm outdoors. Some of these products are already selling out or could later in the month, so we recommend grabbing them now, if possible.

1. A generator for potential power outages

With winter storms on the horizon, a generator is a great investment for homeowners. In order to prepare for the impending winter months, now is a great time to purchase one—especially this year, given shipping delays to the coronavirus pandemic. The most common home generators are standby and portable and each come with their own pros and cons. If you are looking to spend the money on one, they're certainly worth it, as losing power when it's cold outside is always a pain.

2. A patio heater to make being outdoors more bearable

Now that it's November, temperatures are dropping and it's becoming less comfortable to spend time outside. However, during a time where outdoor dining and small outdoor gatherings are recommended over being indoors, many are looking for ways to make being out in the cold more bearable. For the past couple of weeks, patio heaters have become a hot commodity (no pun intended) and have been pretty hard to find. Luckily, this popular one from Hampton Bay is still in stock on Amazon. If you're looking to purchase a patio heater, November is certainly the time to buy before they sell out completely.

3. Throw blankets to keep you cozy

There's nothing quite like cozying up with a throw blanket and a steamy cup of tea at the end of the day, especially this year with so many of us spending more time at home. If you're in the market for a throw blanket, you'll want to get your hands on one now as we've seen inventory start to dwindle for some of our favorite options. Nordstrom's Bliss Plush Throw and the Bedsure Fleece Blanket on Amazon are two of the most popular throw blankets you can buy right now. Plus, they're both relatively affordable and soft enough to want to snuggle with all day long. If you want to splurge, the popular Barefoot Dreams blanket is a great and highly-rated choice, as well.

4. Tools for Thanksgiving dinner

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, you'll want to make sure you're prepared prior to the holiday. To properly cook a Thanksgiving meal or dish, you'll need to make sure you have the right tools, and with shipping delays, you could end up waiting longer than usual for these items to arrive. Not to mention, there could be shortages of certain items that are in high demand. That's why we recommend checking your arsenal now for things like a digital meat thermometer, roasting pans, and loaf pans, so you can order them while they're still in stock. Same goes for groceries!

5. A top-tested space heater

With winter upon us, people are not only stocking up on items that will keep them warm outdoors, but also products that will do the same indoors too. This is why space heaters have been in high demand lately. A space heater can keep those extra chilly spots nice and toasty, and you'll want to purchase one sooner rather than later in case they sell out. This one from De'Longhi is the best space heater we've ever tested because its powerful enough to raise the temperature of a 1350-cubic-foot room six degrees in one hour and has safety features like an automatic shut-off function.

6. A humidifier for dry air

Cold weather means dry air, and since we're spending more time indoors, it's important to make our living spaces as comfortable as possible. A humidifier is not only great to help soothe a cough, but it can make your skin less dry and ensure the air won't scratch your throat. The Vicks Warm Mist Humidifier is our favorite humidifier out of the ones we tested. It can run for about 10 hours on the medium setting, and it was able to bring our testing chamber to 80 percent relative humidity. Plus, it comes with a medicine exhaust for those inevitable sick days.

7. Our favorite snow shovel

If you live in a place where it snows, you don't want to be empty handed before the first (or next) snowfall, which has already happened in some parts of the country. After testing some of the top snow shovels on the market, we found this one from Forest Hill to be the best. It's durable, picked up a ton of snow for more efficient shoveling, and can also be used to scoop up mulch and compost as well.

8. Extra toilet paper

As coronavirus cases are starting to rise across the United States, many are worried about another potential shutdown. That's why people are stocking up on a few thing in case they sell out again—one of those being toilet paper. While you shouldn't buy this item in extreme bulk, it might be nice to have an extra pack of toilet paper lying around just in case. Charmin Ultra Soft happens to be the best toilet paper we've ever tested, but if it's not available any other brand will do.

9. Puzzles for indoor entertainment

Puzzles are the ultimate indoor activity. They were quite hard to find at the beginning of this year, and may be limited in inventory again as we head into the winter months. That being said, you might want to pick up one (or two or three) now just in case they sell out again. Plus, puzzles are always a fun activity to do with the family over the holidays.

10. A real Christmas tree that will get delivered

While it may only be November, we're already thinking about the holidays, specifically decorating our Christmas tree. Many may be wary of heading to a tree farm this year because of COVID-19, but you can still have a real Christmas tree shipped right to your door. It might seem early to digitally select a tree, but if you want it to arrive on time (a.k.a. the day after Thanksgiving) and not sell out, you should order one sooner than later. But you shouldn't worry about it coming too soon as you can set its arrival to the date of your choosing. Or, you could always switch to an artificial tree this year instead. Here are some popular ones you can order now.
