Twitter rolls back safety feature tied to lists
Hours after enabling a feature to disable notifications when users are added to lists, Twitter rolled the option back after hearing feedback on how lists could be used for abuse.
On Monday, Twitter posted an update through its Safety account it would no longer notify users when they are added to lists. The option was part of a larger rollout of safety features aimed at thwarting abuse on the social media service.
However, several users spoke out against the feature, claiming it would be easier for harassers to create lists targeting users without their knowledge.
Roughly three hours after announcing the update, Twitter revealed it would pull it back, calling the decision a "misstep."
Last week, Twitter introduced a series of changes aimed at shutting down harassing tweets. They include "safe search" results, and preventing people banned from the service from creating new accounts.
