The Galaxy Note 7 debacle scorched Samsung's reputation among the public, according to findings from The Harris Poll.

Their Reputation Quotient ratings -- which measure the reputations of the most visible companies in the U.S. -- finds Samsung plunged to 49th this year, compared to 7th from a year ago.

Amazon snagged first place for the second straight year, while Apple, Google and Tesla Motors are the other companies in the top 10.

Samsung's reputation was dinged last year following the massive recall of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. The device suffered from a malfunctioning battery that could cause it to catch fire or explode when charging.

The recall led to Samsung reporting its worst operating profit in two years, costing them at least $5.3 billion in charges.
