Report: Uber CEO seeking a second-in-command

The recent goings-on at Uber have CEO Travis Kalanick looking for someone to shoulder the burden.

Just a few days after Kalanick said he would seek out some help with leadership, tech news site The Information is reporting that Kalanick plans to appoint a number two executive to assist in making major decisions for the troubled ride-sharing service.

The report comes amid tumultuous times at Uber. Investors Mitch Kapor and Freada Kapor Klein recently called the company's corporate culture "toxic" and "destructive." And a former female engineer has raised allegations of inappropriate behavior and sexual harassment at Uber.

Alphabet Inc.'s Waymo, a driverless car rival of Uber's, has sued the company for stealing some of its technology (Uber denies the charges) and competitor Lyft announced plans to raise $500 million to expand its U.S. reach.

Within the last week, the company has seen the departure of two executives, one asked to leave because he had not revealed that he was the subject of a sexual harassment investigation at previous employer Google.

Then, Kalanick issued a statement Tuesday that he would seek "leadership help" after a video surfaced of him arguing with an Uber driver.

It is not clear whether Kalanick has extended a job offer to anyone for the position, The Information said, citing a person briefed on the company's plan.

An Uber spokesman told The Information that it did not have anything additional to announce. Uber did not return a request for comment to Paste BN.
