Obama health law turns 3 years old
Happy birthday to President Obama's health care law.
President Obama signed the plan into law March 23, 2010 -- three years ago Saturday -- yet many Americans are still trying to figure out what it is and what it means.
A recent poll from the non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation says 67% of uninsured Americans under 65 years old -- therefore not eligible for Medicare -- don't know how the health care plan will affect them. Among Americans overall, 57% don't know the impact of the plan.
The Obama health care remains divisive politically.
The Kaiser poll found that 37% of Americans have a favorable view of the law, while 40% have an unfavorable view.
In reporting the Kaiser poll, CBS News noted that views of the health care plan are often determined by political party:
"There's a partisan split in opinion, with 68% of Republicans saying they view the law unfavorably and 58% of Democrats saying they have a positive opinion of the law. Among independents, 31% have a favorable view, while 45% have an unfavorable view."
