Chuck Todd snags Obama for first 'Meet the Press'
At a press conference last week, President Obama ignored tradition and bypassed the Associated Press for the first question.
"I want to congratulate Chuck Todd and give him first dibs," Obama said, calling the newly named host of Meet the Press a "big cheese" and noting it was "his last chance to ask me a question in the press room."
As it turned out, Todd will have a lot more chances to ask the president a question.
NBC announced Thursday night that Obama would be Todd's first guest as Meet the Press moderator on Sunday.
The interview will actually be taped Saturday at the White House to air Sunday morning, NBC spokeswoman Erika Masonhall said. Topics are expected to include the Islamic State in Iraq in Syria, Ukraine, the Ebola outbreak, the midterm elections "and other news of the day," she said.
It was a follow-up from Todd at last week's press conference that led Obama to remark that "We don't have a strategy yet" for dealing with the Islamic State in Syria.
Todd is taking over the show from David Gregory, who last interviewed Obama for Meet the Press in December 2012.
