Obama's day: Volunteers and 'The Star-Spangled Banner'
President Obama pays tribute Friday to the spirit of volunteerism and 'The Star-Spangled Banner.'
In the late morning, Obama hosts a White House event on the 20th anniversary of the national service program known as AmeriCorps.
The president will be joined by Democratic predecessor Bill Clinton, who signed AmeriCorps into law. The two presidents will welcome new volunteers to the program.
In the afternoon, Obama travels to Baltimore for a Democratic Senate Campaign Committee fundraiser, following a side trip to Fort McHenry.
Fort McHenry is the site of an 1814 battle with the British. The bombardment of the fort inspired Francis Scott Key to write a poem that became the lyrics to 'The Star-Spangled Banner," now the national anthem.
