Obama's day: America's Promise Summit Declaration
President Obama engages in a relatively new White House tradition on Monday,
Obama becomes the seventh consecutive president to sign the America's Promise Summit Declaration, which calls on all people "to help the youth of America reach their full potential," says the White House schedule.
Former secretary of State Colin Powell — a prominent Republican supporter of Obama — is the founding chairman of America's Promise Alliance, and joins Obama for the signing ceremony in the Oval Office. So does his wife, Alma Powell, who chairs the alliance board.
Also on Monday, Obama and Vice President Biden will meet with Treasury Secretary Jack Lew.
The president also spends Monday preparing for this week's United Nations sessions in New York City.
