Obama, national security team meet on Islamic State


Amid a rush of news Tuesday -- another Secret Service security lapse, an Ebola case in the United States -- President Obama met with his National Security Council about the battle against the Islamic State.

Obama "received an update on the airstrikes in Iraq and Syria undertaken by the U.S. military and our international partners, and the impact of these operations," said a White House statement.

The group also discussed airstrikes in Syria against the al Qaeda-affiliated Khorasan Group.

The president and national security aides also "the non-military aspects of the strategy" against the Islamic State, including the organization of allies, the White House said.
