Obama invited to hockey's 'Winter Classic'
Pro hockey's "Winter Classic" -- the outdoor game that has become a New Year's Day staple -- is coming to Washington, and sponsors are inviting the city's most prominent resident: President Obama.
To sweeten the deal, the Washington Capitals will be hosting Obama's hometown team, the Chicago Blackhawks. The hockey game will be held at Washington's baseball stadium, Nationals Park.
"It's Chicago, it's Washington, it's national television," Caps owner Ted Leonsis told the Chicago Tribune. "I'm hoping that we can get President Obama to come to the game."
Alas, it's a long shot: Obama is expected to be in Hawaii on Jan. 1, taking his annual turn-of-the-year holiday.
