Obama's overnight in Rhode Island to make history
President Obama will be making a little bit of history Thursday night in Rhode Island -- he'll be spending the night there.
The Providence Journal reports that, when Obama overnights in the Providence area, "it will be the first time in more than 50 years that a sitting president has slept in the nation's smallest state."
The last president to do so: John F. Kennedy.
Obama is staying in Rhode Island for a Friday morning speech on the economy.
From The Providence Journal:
"(Kennedy) stayed at Newport's Hammersmith Farm, home of Jacqueline Kennedy's family.
"President Dwight Eisenhower also vacationed in Newport, staying in a home at Fort Adams.
"Both homes were called 'the summer White House.'"
