Bourbon sellers vie to host Obama-McConnell 'summit'


Never waste a good marketing opportunity.

So it is that bourbon sellers across the country are vying to host a possible "bourbon summit" between President Obama and incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who hails from Kentucky.

Obama touched off a Twitter frenzy at his Wednesday news conference as he discussed plans to meet a lot more with the Republican leader.

"You know, actually, I would enjoy having some Kentucky bourbon with Mitch McConnell," Obama said.

The website Digiday — noting that "real-time marketing has another moment in the sun" — reported that "within an hour of the comment, Topsy recorded more than 100 tweets hashtagged #BourbonSummit, and 200 tweets hashtagged #Bourbon."

No word on whether there will actually be bourbon at a future Obama-McConnell meeting.
