Cecily Strong to perform at W.H. correspondents' dinner

Saturday Night Live cast member Cecily Strong will be the guest comedian at next year's White House Correspondents' Association dinner, the association announced Wednesday.

It's a good gig, but a challenging one: President Obama is also expected to tell jokes at the April 25 dinner, and he's performed quite well in recent years.

Strong, who has been a co-anchor on the Weekend Update faux news segment of Saturday Night Live, will be the fourth woman to perform at the century-old correspondents' dinner.

Christi Parsons of the Chicago Tribune, current president of the association, noted that Strong also has a journalistic pedigree: Her father, Bill Strong, is a former Associated Press bureau chief at the Illinois Statehouse.

Strong's "political humor is sly and edgy, and it comes with a Chicago accent," Parsons said. "Cecily grew up in suburban Oak Park, Ill., and got her start in Chicago's comedy scene with stints at iO and Second City."
