Bush makes surprise visit to 9/11 Memorial

The September 11th Memorial and Museum in New York City received a surprise visitor Sunday night: Former President George W. Bush.

Bush, who was president when terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, paid a low-key visit to the museum in lower Manhattan, with no public announcement and no media in tow.

It's believed to be Bush's first visit since he helped dedicate the memorial and museum on the 10th anniversary of the attacks in 2011. The facility sits on the old World Trade Center site.

The NY1 News channel found out about Bush's trip and reported:

"Bush arrived in a deliberately low-key manner around 6 p.m. while the museum was still open to the public.

"He spent about an hour looking at the exhibits, and shook hands with some Port Authority police officers.

"One of the exhibits Bush took in was the so-called 'Last Column.' That's the final steel beam that was removed from the wreckage of the Twin Towers, marking the end of the nine-month recovery effort."
