Obama hits the ground running on Hawaii vacation
President Obama's first weekend in Hawaii featured the usual end-of-the-year-vacation kinds of things: Golf, the beach, a nice dinner out, issue briefings, and protesters.
On both Saturday and Sunday, the president hit the golf links at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
After a short round on Sunday, the president and his family joined friends on the beach at Bellows Air Force Base.
Sunday dinner came at Morimoto's in Waikiki.
Throughout the weekend, Obama received the normal domestic and national security briefings. He also made calls and issued statements condemning the murders of two New York City police officers that took place on Saturday.
Another weekend feature: Protesters along the president's motorcade route, devoted to such various issues as the recent torture report, police shootings, drones, and the terrorism prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Among the signs, according to pool reporters: "Close Gitmo"; "All Lives Matter"; "Prosecute the War Criminals"; "Close Guantanamo Now!"; "No more drone killings" and the more welcoming "Aloha Obama."
