Obama avoids offer of ... a parrot

One rule for politicians: Don't get caught wearing funny hats.

The same adage applies to the idea of wearing parrots, pirate style.

While on a family jaunt Thursday to get some shave ice — a Hawaii treat similar to a snow cone — President Obama apparently avoided a woman's offer to put her parrot on his shoulder.

From the pool report:

"A small crowd had gathered on the edge of the parking lot. One woman had a large parrot on her shoulder and told pool that her husband said he'd give her $1,500 if she got POTUS to hold the parrot on his shoulder.

"That did not happen."

The president and his family also rang in the new year with some snorkeling. The president and first lady Michelle Obama later dined at an exclusive restaurant called Vintage Cave, as they prepared to wrap up their annual end-of-the-year vacation in Hawaii.

The Obamas are scheduled to returned to Washington, D.C., on Sunday.
