Obama cuts radio spot for Chicago mayor

President Obama has cut a radio spot for ex-chief of staff and current Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel as the latter seeks re-election.

Emanuel "loves our city, and he believes every child in every neighborhood should have a fair shot at success," Obama says in the 60-second ad that begins airing in Chicago this week.

The first White House chief of staff of the Obama administration, Emanuel won election as Chicago mayor in 2011.

From the Associated Press:

"The president praises Emanuel's record, including lengthening the school day and increasing the city's minimum wage. ...

"Emanuel has been sharply criticized for closing dozens of neighborhood schools, a decision he defended during a weekend candidate forum.

"He is being challenged in the Feb. 24 election by several candidates, including Cook County Commissioner Jesus Garcia and Alderman Bob Fioretti."
