Obama's day: A visitor from Qatar
Foreign policy and domestic safety are on President Obama's agenda Tuesday as he meets with the Amir of Qatar and various law enforcement officials.
In the late morning, Obama and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani of Qatar will discuss "political, economic, and security issues of mutual concern to our two countries," says the White House schedule.
"The United States and Qatar have a long-standing partnership, and this meeting is an opportunity to further that relationship along with our shared interest in supporting stability and prosperity in the Middle East," the White House says.
One likely topic: The battle against the Islamic State.
This afternoon, Obama and Vice President Biden will meet with "rank-and-file law enforcement officials" from across the country "to thank them for their service to our communities," says the White House. The group will also "discuss how communities and law enforcement can work together to build trust to ensure public safety and strengthen neighborhoods."
Afterward, the president meets with members of Congress to discuss criminal justice reform, according to the schedule.
