Obama's day: Earth Day in the Florida Everglades
President Obama spends Earth Day on Wednesday in the Florida Everglades, promoting his climate change policies.
After touring Everglades National Park in the afternoon, Obama will speak "on the threat that climate change poses to our economy and to the world," says the White House schedule.
The president will stress his efforts to reduce carbon emissions, while criticizing congressional Republicans for opposing his environmental policies.
The Republicans said Obama's regulations hurt businesses and drive up energy bills for consumers.
The Obama administration is also pursuing a global climate change agreement with other nations, a proposal that Republicans say will put more demands on the United States than its international competitors.
In his Earth Day speech, the president also plans to spotlight the damage that global warming has done to places like the Florida Everglades.
"The administration is highlighting the value of special and vulnerable places like the Everglades and announcing new steps to protect the people and places climate change puts at risk," said a White House statement.
Obama returns to the White House on Wednesday night.
